Hello! How are you today?
Yesterday my morning started with a look at some fabric I have in bins, followed by the clearing out of those bins, and pulling projects that I'm a little weary of looking at. Projects I don't necessarily want to finish any more, and that need to be sent off to Goodwill. For example, there were a few blocks of a Christmas quilt, with a lot of beige and creams in it, and it feels a little too drab to spend so many hours working on.
From there, I moved on to admiring sewing patterns and thinking again how I will need pajamas for the summer.
My son said, "Those are huge!" Ha! Thank you Nathan!
For the record, you will probably never catch me wearing a pair of shorts. After four children and a genetic predisposition for not so pretty veins, I prefer the look of dresses and skirts in the summer. There have been numerous times however, when I'm home in the evening during the hot summer months, that I wish I had a pair of shorts. I've ventured out to shop for some in the past, but I find most are uncomfortable or worse, really short! You probably know the shorts I am talking about, the ones where it's hard to tell where the leg starts and the crotch ends, kind of short shorts. It seems they are often one in the same these days!
I came across Simplicity 9505, with simple pajama shorts included. The first pair I cut out incorrectly. (Sigh. The fabric was really cute!) (Make sure to cut with right sides together which is not stated clearly in the pattern.) But after cutting out another pair, they were very easy to sew. It was fun and I decided to learn as I went and took the time to read about naps and selvages. I ran the elastic as the pattern suggested, but also decided to make two button holes and run a tie belt through them to make the simple pattern a little cuter. I also made them about 1 1/2 inches longer than the pattern.
I know I will make more of these and some other easy-sew clothes for the summer as well. Do you sew? I'd love to hear what you are making. Back to knitting now for a while.
Wishing you an awesome and beautiful day! Jeannine
