Happy Saturday! I hope your weekend is off to a good start. I'm thrilled to have the kids home and the free time, but my husband is working today so it doesn't exactly feel like the weekend. I've been doing a little embroidery off and on, napkins. I love the slow pace of embroidery. I don't do it often, but embroidery has a special place in my heart, because in fourth grade my mom taught me how to do it. (So, so long ago:) My elementary school had invited parents to come in and teach a skill to the students and we picked which group we wanted to be in. My mom had me and about three other little girls to teach how to embroider. She brought tiny hoops, handkerchiefs, thread and she had drawn a couple small flowers on each handkerchief. She treated us as sweet and delicate as the tiny flowers she had drawn and it was so special. I was so proud at the time; like she was my superhero. haha. It's probably my fondest early school memory. I think about it just about every time I have a hoop in my hand, because I'm certain that few minutes shaped my future love of all things handmade. Funny to think something so small could have such an impact.
I have plans in the making to sew several dresses for this summer. We'll be heading to Florida for a few days in July and I tend to melt in the heat and I love how a dress can keep me cool. I recently finished a skirt only because I had it cut out from a year or so ago. It's dark fabric, but it's actually a light cotton. I'll have to pair it with a shirt and take more pictures. I am more of a dress kind of girl because I think they fit me better. I have a whole stack of pre-washed fabrics and patterns picked out for A-line dresses; I just need to find the time to sew them.
Enjoy the weekend friends! I hope you find time for what you love. Jeannine:)
