I've had a curiosity about mandeleines ever since I saw this episode of Farmhouse Rules. I had never had a mandeleine, and I didn't know if they were like a cookie, or a cake like the name, (mandeleine: a small rich cake.), suggests. I've been casually looking for a pan, and just recently ordered one. The recipe I used was a basic mandeleine recipe, so next time I'll try some variation. Of course making petite, french deserts in my house of men is somewhat comical. The images that come to mind when one thinks of mandeleine's, (tea parties and hands gently taking one from a beautiful platter to savor and admire), are replaced by the reality of several hands grabbing them up in numbers, like store bought Oreos. But, they enjoyed them all the same, so that is definitely all that matters.
Yesterday's weather allowed for a little outdoor knitting. Time spent listening to birds, concentrating on yarn and thinking through what's on one's mind, is, as most knitters already know...very calming. Oh, we are so lucky to enjoy all the benefits of this craft.
If you asked me a word that defines what I love about summer, linen would be at the very top. I love anything linen: clothes (I usually by a few each year at Marshall's), napkins, bags, oh yes! This winter I've even been layering pieces so I can still wear it:) Here is just a little something about the beauty of linen. This brings me to the beautiful linen yarn a dear friend gave to me. It's lace weight and looks darker in the picture than it actually is. I have an idea for a pattern and I'm about to cast on; I would really love a little summer something to happen with it.
My fireplace mantel is my third corner of my home that needs some cottage inspiration, and I'm sharing it as part of my Cottage Corner Tuesdays. Yes, there are still Christmas candle holders there. I don't worry about what's not decorated in my home, but I would like to add some love to these areas, and I think cottage decor, (simple, calming, beautiful) will reflect the love I have for my family and in return make them feel special. That's my goal and it will take some work. Although there are other areas that need improvement, I'm going to focus on the three I've shared for now and try to start completing improvements. Maybe these words will help get me going.
Well, have a happy Tuesday my friends. Rain is on the way here. I'm wishing you a sunny day, even if the weather doesn't participate:) Jeannine
